I received my Panasonic DMR-E95H today. I ordered it last week from buyriteelectronics.com. So far, so good. I hooked it up without too much trouble to my Time Warner digital cable box (Scientific Atlanta) and recorded something off one of the premium channels onto the hard drive. I played it back and it looked great to me, but this is my first DVD recorder, so I guess time will tell. I turned off the Panasonic and left the cable box on, so I hope it will download all the channel stuff tonight. I've read plenty of posts about how lousy the guide is, so I don't expect too much from it. Like I said before, time will tell. I hope to put this unit through plenty of test this weekend.

I'm sure I'll be back with plenty of questions...

Congrats. Can you do a manual timer recording by bypassing the TV Guide EPG? Also, does the unit have a DV/Firewire input port?

Looks like the Panasonic site touts this as the replacement for the E100, judging by the specs. I don't know if it is a typo but the idle power usage on the E95 is out of whack on the site spec sheet.
I actually am inclined to go for the E100 after comparing spec sheets, does anyone else think otherwise? I like the TVGuide function on my E85, but the unreliability for now discourages me to also buy the E95.

I'm waiting for someone to connect an E95 by FireWire to a Sony and a JVC camcorder and also VCRs by them, to see if it recognizes them and copies from them with that connection.

Everyday, there's more dealers showing on Search, that have the E95 in stock.

The thing I don't like about the E85 guide is you can't look at the program descriptions without it changing the channel and it won't properly setup a recording for the same time slot on different days.

I record Clifford for my daughter on M/T/TH/F and Clifford's Puppy Days on W. They are both on at the same time and I have Clifford set for Regular and CPD's set for Weekly, but after it records one of them, it will not record the other, even though it still shows as a recording set for that show. I have to go in on Tuesday evening and reschedule CPD's then Wed night, go and reschedule Clifford. When I do this, it still shows the R or W on the program guide but only retains the last one that recorded in the scheduled recording list.

You measure your TV in INCHES? How cute! 9.16 Ft Diagonally, Yeah, Baby!

Try going into the menu and manually changing the start time on the Wednesday program to begin 1 minute earlier. This might fix your problem. Please let us know if this works.

Hey cloudnine, buyriteelectonics.com doesn't show up, is that through ebay?

Sorry - I originally left one "r" out of the name. It is buyriteelectronics.com. I have now corrected it in my original post...

It didn't work, it gives me a conflict with the other show and will not set. :(

Cloudnine, I was hoping to hear a performance report from you on the E95. Also, a rating on Buy Rite's service would be helpful.

Sorry, I haven't had much spare time to experiment with it. I gave up on the channel guide - I could never get it to work. But, I have TW digital cable and maybe it doesn't work with digital cable or something, I don't know. I've made a few recordings and they look great to me. I've played them back on several different dvd players (Panasonic & Sony) and several different tv's. I watched one of the DVDs I recorded on the E95 on my 73" Mitsubishi and it seemed fine to me.

Buyrite was a good experience for me. I ordered on a Thursday and received it the next Tuesday. Plus, it seems like a great price to me - under $750 after shipping!

Thanks, Cloudnine. You are one of just a handful of people who have the Panasonic E95
at this time. I'm glad to hear that the DVDs-----I assume you mean DVD-R-----that you've recorded are playing okay on other equipment. The channel guide system seems to be a problem with those needing to use cable boxes, but perhaps someone else can contribute some advice on solving the situation. You are apparently able to manually set the timed programs.

I also received my E95 last week, purchased from Buy Rite Electronics. They were very pleasant to buy from as they kept you well informed on the package. I too have problems with the programming guide. I do not have a cable box, but I am connected thru a cable service. After the first day, the programming guide was very good listing all of the channels with the descriptions, but by the second day, only the local channels were listed with no info on the channels. I am now setting up programming by the manual method. I have to say that the recordings in XP are quite good as one could not tell the difference from the original. I have yet to burn any dvd's. I have also hooked up my Samsung OTA HDTV receiver with the recorded not as good as HDTV but quite good with the full 16:9 aspect. Overall a great piece of equipment...

Do you have that 30" widescreen Samsung HDTV that has generated so much response on another AVS forum? It's interesting that the SD playback from the E95 would look so good on it and in 16:9, as well. Have you tried a progressive scan DVD playback from the E95 on this HDTV yet?

Perhaps, the program guide problems are not caused by the E95 itself, but it's a fault of the program information source. Can you identify anyplace you could call that is responsible for compiling and sending out the guide? Maybe, some direct complaints might improve their service or you could learn something about making it work better.

The program TV Guide's technology is similar to what gets your time to sync on your VCR (I forget the name) and close captioning.
The guide will take 24 hours to propagate after you turn the unit off, so don't worry if nothing comes out after you set the zones et al.
Make sure you test your recording to DVD-R to see if it is quirky/picky with media. Also try direct recording to DVD-R as opposed to transferring from HDD.
I'm waiting for my E95 but I got the E85 a month ago.
