just purchased the Monster HTS 1000 -- should it be warm?

I just purchased the Monster HTS 1000.

I have a couple of questions.

1. It gets warm. Is this normal? My previous surge protector which I paid like $10.00 for never got warm.
As a result, is it ok that cords and speaker wire are touching it?

2. My powered sub woofer needs an outlet and I was going to use the "amp" outlet on the it. Is this ok? I don't see any other outlets that match. (Every outlet on it is supposedly designed for each specific item.)

In all honesty, I see no picture quality difference. I haven't done comparisons with audio. I ended up getting this on sale at Circuit City. I'm wondering if I should just return it.

I find all of this "power" stuff confusing and a lot of contradictory info. out there. It seems there is no clear answer to whether this "power conditioning" is just a market scam or legitimate. There seems to be no agreement as to how many joules are even needed for a set-up like mine.

Thanks.

That's probably because there really isn't any type of "conditioning" going on in the first place.
What you have is a fancy surge protector.

I would return it. Get a decent Panamax and leave it at that.

BTW, check out this thread: Monter Cable products

Boycott Monster products

What do you guys think of Acoustic? I'd like to buy something I can just pick up at one of the B&Ms.

"I find all of this "power" stuff confusing and a lot of contradictory info."

Why do you think you need one then?

The Monster products can be great if you have a specifc power issue to deal with. Other than that you just need a power bar. My HTS-1100 did a great job with some interference I was getting in my system. Completely eliminated it. I have seen no perceptible increase in picture or audio quality though.

That said I won't buy anything from Monster again until they stop their ridiculous lawsuits against smaller companies.

Read the thread linked above for why many people, even once pro-Monster, are boycotting them.

Because I don't have a great understanding of it all doesn't mean I don't need one and is reason why I am posting here.
