If you are using a wireless router with it, I usually do the cable modem and wireless router in the office (usually the main level) then plug the main desktop straight into the router and send another feed down to a network switch at the main headend.
This puts the strongest wireless signal on the main level and makes is very easy to connect the rest of the house through a network switch.
If I want this broadband to feed multiple computers, is it better to do it wireless? If not wireless, i guess it may be better to put the modem in the basement at the head end? I have an office upstairs and the homerun is in the basement next to the theater.
