I've just purchased a Creative Audigy2 ZS sound card to go with my Logitech Z-560 speakers (THX Certified 4.1).

If I buy DVD audio discs, will this set up give me the full DVD audio experience? The card supports 24bit/192kHz stereo and 24/96 in 5.1.

As long as you use the dvd-audio player that came with the Audigy and have the speakers hooked up with the analog connection instead of digital it should work. And you'll need a 5.1 speaker system of course if you want to listen to the surround version.

Yup. I replaced the Creative drivers with the KxProject drivers and play my DVD-Audios with WinDVD.

I have been listening to DVD-A on my PC with the Audigy card and Creative 550 (Cambridge SoundWorks) 5.1 speaker package and really enjoy it.

Kind of cool to be able to surf the net while listening to DVD-A

I was listening to Rumours, sounds pretty good (kids running around the house deterred the best listening environment however). I did install the KX Drivers (as mentioned earlier in this thread).

I do have one question though, How do I switch between 2/192kHz and 5.1? I haven't figured out how to listen to the 192kHz at all.

I didn't know the Rumours DVD-A had a 192khz track.

The only 192khz stereo track I know of on DVD-A is on the Eagles Hotel California. I like it just a smidge better than the 24/96 5.1 mix.

I just bought a new mid-line Dell computer but I did get the Audigy 2 sound card as an upgrade. The other night I tried a DVD-A disk on it and after a brief setup procedure (and much to my surprise) the 5.1 high-rez audio worked. With the basic player software that I got, however, the video does not show up. And on this computer I kept my old speaker setup, which is 4.1 only, so there is a "hole" where the center speaker information should be playing. Otherwise, the sound improvement is very noticeable compared to regular CD's, and it's nice to have the option to play (hear) the difference.

If you want to see the video screen that goes along with the dvd-audio mode you have to have a software dvd-audio player that supports it.
This file can do that

You use winrar from rarlab.com.

Winrar is much more powerfull than winzip so you really should use that instead.
It can still open zip files, but it can compress more with rar files and it can use segmented files too.

There is no way to rip dvd-a files. They use a new encryption that has not been broken yet. It is an update of the dvd-v encryption I believe.

I'm quite happy with this because it might give us more freedom if the record industry knows we can't betray their trust.

agreed. But that makes it hard to integrate into my cd jukebox (ripped to hard drive with a jukebox front end) collection of titles that I own. Once you've achieved bit perfect playback with your music collection with a front end to manage your collection, it's hard to go back to managing singles disks. Anyone know of a dvd-a changer that can be controlled via rs232?

So what is the best software for my computer to play DVD-A? I tried some of the WINMEDIA10 files and they seem not to work so good.. Any free downloads out there????????
